YQB 2018 – Modular corridor of 165m. to provide safe, comfortable access to international departure gates

Fully air conditioned, heated, and computerized, the 165 m modular corridor provides safer, more comfortable access to YQB's international terminal for all inbound and outbound passengers.

QUEBEC CITY – In a move to ensure passenger comfort during construction underway at Quebec City Jean Lesage International Airport (YQB) until 2018, Aeroport de Quebec inc. (AQi) has installed an access corridor leading to gates 33 through 35.

Fully air conditioned, heated, and computerized, the 165 m modular corridor provides safer, more comfortable access to YQB’s international terminal for all inbound and outbound passengers.

With the boarding area for gates 33 and 34 off-limits for the duration of the international terminal expansion, the corridor was needed to provide access to the gates, which see a great deal of traffic over the winter months. The expansion of the international terminal -dubbed YQB 2018- comes at a total cost of $277 million.

“We looked at several different options, and a modular corridor turned out to be the best way to keep our passengers warm and dry throughout the construction phase. It allows passengers to reach customs safely and comfortably and cuts their outdoor transit time to a minimum,” explained Gaetan Gagne, president and CEO of AQi.

“The corridor is a worthwhile investment for AQi. We could reuse it on future projects, and reinstall it to service domestic arrivals and departures,” added Mr. Gagne.

Designed and assembled by Canam-Buildings, the corridor is made of 128 prefabricated Murox wall panels, 100 tons of beams and structural steel, and 2,400 square meters of metal flooring. All of the materials for the structure, which took three months to install, were fabricated at Canam Group’s plants in Saint-Gedeon-de-Beauce.
