Major multimillion euro investment for Kerry-based travel technology company Mobacar

US-based Auto Europe lead strategic investment in Mobacar to value Irish company at 20m. euros according to CEO Mike Webster. Mobacar staff numbers to increase to 41 in their Killarney Headquarters.

Global car rental brokerage Auto Europe and Delta Partners have made a multimillion euro investment in Kerry-based Mobacar to create a global strategic partnership for airlines and Online Travel Agencies. The deal values the Killarney-headquartered company at 20millon euros and will create 11 new high-end jobs in Kerry including positions for data scientists, developers and business development professionals. Mobacar’s existing 30-person team already includes 6 data scientists working on the world’s first intelligent car rental and ground transportation distribution platform for airlines and Online Travel Agencies.

The partnership connects Auto Europe’s over 50 years of experience, peerless global supply network and support capabilities of approximately 20,000 car rental locations in 180 countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, North and South America with Mobacar’s data-science-driven intelligent car rental distribution platform.

Speaking on the deal Mobacar CEO and founder Mike Webster said that the partnership will disrupt a stagnant non-data driven industry, “From Kerry, Mobacar have been at the forefront of the development of retail intelligence technology for the travel industry. Based on these innovations, AE and Mobacar see the huge potential in partnering Mobacar’s technology and AE’s global supply and unparalleled service. Airlines and Online Travel Agencies have been duped for years and have sleepwalked into car rental solutions that overprice their customers, drive poor conversions, are poorly serviced and drive absolutely no loyalty to the online travel retailer’s brand.”

Webster continued to say, “The days of me too solutions are over. This strategic partnership means that from today airlines and Online Travel Agencies can offer their consumers something absolutely unique through Mobacar’s retail intelligence platform be it for car rental, motor homes, airport transfers or luxury cars all  matched by the best global customer service and supply network in Auto Europe. This solution offers Online Travel Agencies and airlines with the best customer service and commercial offering in the market.”

Speaking on the deal, Niall McDevitt European CEO of Auto Europe said “We are very excited by Mobacar’s intelligent car rental distribution platform and inventive software team. We are convinced that this new partnership not only enhances the distribution possibilities for our 12,000 B2B partners worldwide but also offers us the perfect solution to go out and win more B2B business.”

Mobacar will use this investment to increase its staff numbers to accelerate its investment in its retail intelligence products, its technology and product team and its global sales team and bring its team in Kerry to 41 people by the end of the year.

Mobacar have over 100 online travel companies using its solution today including 8 airlines, while Auto Europe has one of the world’s largest car rental brokerage businesses with over 2.5 million bookings per year and over 600 people working across three service centers in Portland in Maine, Munich and Sydney. Both Auto Europe and Mobacar are growing rapidly both experiencing double digit growth last year.
