Where to stay in Mexico City: New hotel openings and renovations

Mexico's capital features many new developments in hospitality, offering accommodations for all kinds of travelers.

MEXICO CITY – It’s an exciting time for Mexico City with more restaurants, galleries, theatres, night clubs, festivals and events than ever before. With so much going on in the city around every corner, occupancy rates are higher than they have been in the last eight years at 66%. Fortunately, Mexico City hotels have the diverse capabilities to cater to all kinds of guests from discerning, world travelers to frequent business jetsetters. From those searching for “hidden gems” with an authentic taste of the city, to those seeking the amenities and services of a large hotel, will find what they are looking for in Mexico City.

The capital city’s wide range of accommodation offerings continue to grow and adapt to further impress visitors looking for a unique and exceptional experience in the thriving metropolis. Here is a list of some of the most noteworthy hospitality updates in Mexico City this year:

Hotel Carlota

This new design-oriented boutique hotel, which was spearheaded by the prestigious Mexico City-based firm, JSa Arquitectura, opened in the lively Colonia Juarez neighborhood in June 2015. The property features amenities such as a glass walled swimming pool and a chic, on-location boutique, Taxonomia.

Four Seasons Mexico City

Just steps from Chapultepec Park and the exclusive Polanco neighborhood, the luxury Four Seasons Mexico City has undergone a $14 million renovation set for completion this fall, which provides updates to its guest rooms, meeting rooms, and public spaces.

InterContinental Presidente Mexico City

The hotel group’s flagship property in Mexico is set to complete a $40 million renovation this October featuring 700 modern and comfortable rooms. The property’s restaurant, Chapulin, which opened in August 2014, houses the largest wine cellar in both Mexico and Latin America and serves wines from all over the world.

Hippodrome
In December 2014, the Hippodrome revealed its reimagined 16-room boutique hotel after a 16-month, $3M renovation by owner and celebrated architect, Nahim Dagdug. The new design was complemented by interior designer Robert Mar’s custom made hardwood pieces and furniture, accented with classic art deco decor.

St. Regis Mexico City

Located at the city’s historic Paseo De La Reforma, the luxury hotel brand announced the opening of The Glass House Cafe in August 2015, the hotel’s latest culinary venue featuring fine tea from Dammann Freres and pastries from acclaimed Mexican Chef Paulina Abascal. Additionally, the property launched a new Cultural Curator program, which offers niche experiences that appeal to many guest’s hobbies. Options include shopping with fashion stylist Marco Corral, running with professional marathoner Rogelio Jimenez and biking scenic routes along the Roma-Condesa corridor.

Las Alcobas

Formerly a residence, Las Alcobas is a boutique hotel in the heart of the Polanco district which was sophisticatedly designed into a series of intimate alcoves reflecting its Spanish namesake, “Alcobas.” The property announced it was added to Starwood’s Luxury Collection this year.

Le Meridien Mexico City

To help guests discover their destination, this internationally-recognized hotel brand develops unique, interactive and curated experiences through collaborative partnerships special to its properties around the world. At Le Meridien Mexico City, the hotel maintains a partnership with El Museo Rufino Tamayo where with each room booking, two museum tickets are provided to offer guests the opportunity to experience the museum’s iconic representation of international contemporary art in Mexico. Guided tours can also be arranged for guests upon request.
