Aeroflot and Sberbank Leasing sign lease agreement for 14 airplanes

The agreement stipulates that Sberbank Leasing will provide the Boeing aircraft to Aeroflot and its subsidiaries under operating lease. These airplanes had originally been ordered for Transaero.

MOSCOW – Aeroflot and Sberbank Leasing have signed an agreement for the leasing of at least 14 airplanes, predominantly Boeing 737 NG. The memorandum of intent was signed by Aeroflot Deputy CEO for Finance and Network and Revenue Management Shamil Kurmashov and by Sberbank Leasing CEO Kirill Tsarev.

The agreement stipulates that Sberbank Leasing will provide the Boeing aircraft to Aeroflot and its subsidiaries under operating lease. These airplanes had originally been ordered for Transaero.

“Today’s agreement with Sberbank Leasing is the first step towards adding these aircraft, which were originally intended for Transaero, to the Aeroflot Group fleet. Part of Transaero’s fleet and routes will be transferred to us, together with half of the company’s employees – around 6,000 people. Additional operating capacity is needed, first and foremost, to provide these people with work. By doing this, Aeroflot will resolve one of the key social issues that the Russian Government assigned to us in connection with Transaero’s exit from the market,” said Shamil Kurmashov.

“We value our longstanding partnership with Aeroflot, which is Russia’s leading air transport company and a systemically-important part of the domestic economy. Our portfolio already covers the leasing of Sukhoi Superjet 100 aircraft. This contract for a new batch of airplanes confirms our commitment as a long-term player in the development of Russia’s aviation sector,” said Kirill Tsarev, the CEO of Sberbank Leasing.
