Virgin America to launch service to Hawaii in island style

Virgin America will also begin service from San Francisco to Kahului, Maui on December 3, 2015.

Virgin America, the Bay Area-based airline known for reinventing flying, is celebrating the launch of its new service from San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Honolulu International Airport (HNL) with a Hawaiian-style send-off for the airline’s inaugural flight to paradise onboard its brand new A320 aircraft named Pineapple Express. To mark the occasion, Virgin America’s sleek home at SFO’s Terminal 2 will be transformed into an exotic oasis as Virgin America and Airbnb host a lu’au complete with hula dancers, Mai Tais, and island-inspired music. In true hospitality spirit, Airbnb will offer a glimpse into what it is like to “Live Aloha” with an authentically designed Hawaiian Hale where travelers will be able to enjoy fresh fruit, juice and giveaways while indulging in Hawaiian oils, creams and body mist before boarding the flight.

Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson will be on hand for the exciting celebration that will include a brief press conference with Virgin America President and CEO David Cush, SFO leadership and Airbnb CMO, Jonathan Mildenhall. To help launch its new flights, Virgin America teamed up with Airbnb – the world’s leading community-driven hospitality company that offers accommodations ranging from luxurious beachfront estates to chic treehouses in Hawaii. To encourage Bay Area travelers to “Work Hard, Hawai’i Hard,” Virgin America launched a contest to win the ultimate #Hawaiiscape with seats on the inaugural flight and accommodations at an Airbnb estate on Oahu with Virgin Group Founder Sir Richard Branson. Sir Richard Branson will also surprise a few lucky travelers with a chance to join the inaugural flight and make their #Hawaiiscape.

Virgin America will also begin service from San Francisco to Kahului, Maui on December 3, 2015. Hawai’i continues to be the number one visitor destination from the West Coast, with over 3.2 million visitors in 2014.1 Virgin America’s service is uniquely tailored to the modern traveler and to the longer-haul Hawai’i flight experience. With new aircraft that offer three custom-designed classes of service, touch-screen personal entertainment and an award-winning on-demand food and cocktail menu on every flight, travelers departing from the stylish and convenient new Terminal 2 at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) can kick off their Hawai’i vacation as soon as they step onboard. Virgin America has been named the “Best Domestic Airline” Travel + Leisure’s World’s Best Awards for the past eight consecutive years.
