Budapest Airport adds highly-desired Lyon with easyJet

Lyon has been a highly-desired destination for Budapest for some time, and as the airport’s largest indirectly served destination in Europe, easyJet will face no competition on the new link.

Recording more than double the European average in passenger traffic growth, Budapest Airport experienced an 11.3% increase in October, easily outstripping the European average of +5.1%, and putting the Hungarian gateway on the brink of smashing the 10 million passenger barrier for the first time ever.

In the ceaseless expansion of its solid route network, the Central European airport has announced yet another development, with the welcome addition of easyJet’s new link to Lyon. easyJet will be operating a thrice-weekly service on the airport pair, set to begin 26 April 2016.

Lyon has been a highly-desired destination for Budapest for some time, and as the airport’s largest indirectly served destination in Europe, easyJet will face no competition on the new link.

As France’s third biggest city, the year-on-year steady increase of indirect traffic to Lyon has demonst rated the vast potential for both business and leisure travellers on this route. As one of the LCC’s hubs, the new service will mean an extra 40,000 passengers next year for Budapest.

Kam Jandu, CCO, Budapest Airport comments: “We’ve realised, and smashed, so many of our expectations and targets this year. To bring our lobbying to fruition with the addition of easyJet’s new service is testament to the hard work and commitment. We were missing the heart of France from the direct routes available from Budapest so Lyon fits perfectly into our destination network.” He added: “It’s amazing to think of the numbers passing through our terminal, and we looking forward to welcoming easyJet’s new passengers next summer, in another year that is already promising extensive further development for us.”
