Riga Airport signs a contract on interior works in the new Pier building

The construction works are scheduled to be accomplished in the autumn of 2016 and the amount of the contract is 8.87 million euros.
Riga International Airport has signed an agreement with SIA “Merks” on interior works in the new North Pier building. When the works are finished, passengers will have access to 19 new boarding gates, three air bridges, new commercial areas and spacious and comfortable lounges, greatly increasing the general capacity of the airport.

By implementing this phase of terminal expansion, we will provide more comfort and better quality of services to the passengers,” said Andris Liepins, chairman of the board of Riga International Airport.

The construction works are scheduled to be accomplished in the autumn of 2016 and the amount of the contract is 8.87 million euros.

Construction inspection will be performed by the general partnership “Buvalts P.M.G.”, and the authors of the architectural design are SIA “Arhis Arhitekti”.

The airport is implementing this project as part of its business activity by financing it from its own funds and the credit resources attracted from POHJOLA BANK PLC.

It should be remembered that within the project of airport terminal development, Stage 5, the first phase of construction works was accomplished in September 2015 resulting in a larger non-Schengen area, three new boarding gates and more space for the arriving passengers.

The capacity of the existing terminal is sufficient for providing good quality services to 3.5 million passengers per year while already in 2015 the airport expects to welcome five million passengers. The existing number of passengers and its anticipated further growth called for the expansion of the terminal in order to provide comfortable premises and welcoming reception to the passengers and appropriate service to airlines.
