Royal Brunei Airlines partners with SITAONAIR on EFB systems across fleet

Gives paperless operational information via iPads to its A320 and B787-8 crew.

AIRCRAFT INTERIORS EXPO (AIX), HAMBURG – Royal Brunei Airlines have adopted SITAONAIR’s electronic flight bag (EFB) solution, which will deliver paperless operational information to pilots onboard its Airbus A320-200 fleet. The EFB technology will also be deployed as a backup on its Boeing 787-8 fleet.

The move to EFBs is part of Royal Brunei’s digital transformation – having already initiated flight planning, datalink services and flight tracking in partnership with SITAONAIR. As a result, the integration of this digital solution to the airline’s fleet will be easily implemented.

The EFB is fully cloud hosted, comes with full back-end integration, allows the integration of/switching to third party applications and has a highly intuitive pilot interface that simplifies workflows during briefings and while inflight. It is the market’s only EFB to include all of these features.

The paperless operations are projected to deliver significant cost savings for Royal Brunei, and enable real-time operational data exchange. Initially the airline will use electronic documentation, notifications and reporting functionalities alongside the integration of electronic charts and performance calculations. The A320 cockpit will also be fitted with a mount to enable its use throughout the flight.

SITAONAIR will also provide 24/seven support and manage the operational approval process on behalf of the airline.

“Moving to EFBs offers greater flexibility for our operation. Our goal is to operate paperless and use the technology to aid communication for our crew. SITAONAIR’s fully managed support, coupled with it being a cloud hosted solution, allows us an easy and quick implementation. We look forward to being among the first airlines running a paperless operation,” said Capt Chua Hong Tad, Flight Training Manager A320 fleet.

“We are very pleased that Royal Brunei Airlines (RB) is the launch customer for our EFB Solution in Asia Pacific further cementing the RB and SITAONAIR e-aircraft and digital transformation partnership. We have worked very closely with RB over the last 15 months introducing Datalink Services, Flight Messenger and Flight Tracker, and now with the implementation of our EFB Solution RB will be able to further optimize their airline operation and digitize the cockpit,” said David Lavorel, SITAONAIR’s CEO.
