Egyptian Tourist Authority gets ready to host the European Challenge Tour

Red Sea Egyptian challenge to provide inspiration for golfing breaks in 2016.

LONDON – The Egyptian Tourist Authority (ETA) is gearing up to host some of the world’s best golfers at the Red Sea Egyptian Challenge presented by Hassan Allam Properties from the 20th – 23rd April 2016.

The second tournament in the European Challenge Tour 2016 will be held at the Sokhna Golf Club in Ain Sokhna, which is a beautiful town on the western shore of the Red Sea’s Gulf of Suez. It is situated 55 km south of Suez and approximately 120 km east of Cairo.

Golf fans will have already seen the season’s opening tournament take place in Kenya where Sweden’s Sebastian Soderberg scooped the victory and now players from all over the world are gearing up to tee off in Egypt which has a good reputation in the golfing community due to the sunny climate and moderate temperatures which can be enjoyed all year round.

“The tournament will be shown on many TV and digital channels across the world and I am really looking forward to following the action. If after watching the event golfers are inspired to book a trip to Egypt for a round or two, there are plenty of options in order to combine the sport with a holiday. We have several specialist operators who provide golfing packages, or alternatively a local travel agent should be able to recommend resorts which include golf courses or have greens in close proximity,” comments Rasha Azaizi, Director UK, Ireland and Nordic markets, Egyptian State Tourist Office.

The Red Sea area provides a wealth of well-maintained golf courses. Big names such as Greg Norman (The Allegria) and Gary Player (Cascades at Soma Bay) have designed courses in Egypt but possibly the most well-known name in course design is John Sanford who has created several projects but most recently he co-designed the Palm Hills with Jack Nicklaus. John Sanford and Tim Lobb actually designed the Sokhna Golf Club where the Red Sea Egyptian Challenge will take place.
