AAPA calendar year 2005 and December 2005 traffic results
The preliminary results showed the number of international passengers carried by AAPA members topped 128 million for the whole of 2005, an increase of +5% or 6.1 million passengers. In terms of revenue passenger kilometers (RPKs), passenger traffic rose by +5.1%. Capacity expanded by +4.6%, resulting in an improvement of +0.4% percentage point in passenger load factor, to 73.3% for 2005.

For the month of December, the number of passengers carried grew by only +0.9% year-on-year, to 11.0 million. RPKs rose by +2.4% on capacity growth of +2.1, causing December’s passenger load factor to gain +0.2 percentage point, to 73.7%.

Commenting on the figures, Mr. Andrew Herdman, AAPA’s Director General, said: “AAPA member airlines as a group set new records international passenger in 2005, despite the dampening effect of high oil prices. The number of international passengers reached 128 million for the year, a growth of 5%. The outlook for Asia Pacific’s aviation industry in 2006 remains fairly positive, although the burden of high oil prices on the global economy remains a concern.”
