A record month for Air Berlin
Air Berlin reported positive figures for September 2007 as the number of passengers transported amounted to 2,454,637 passengers, i.e. a 21 percent increase in comparison with the corresponding month of the previous year (09/2006: 2,028,721 passengers). As Joachim Hunold, Air Berlin’s CEO, stated in Berlin on Monday: September has been the month with the highest increase for the year so far.
The accumulated number of passengers welcomed on board is impressive as well: For the first nine months of the year 2007, the number of passengers flying Air Berlin increased by 14.2 percent. From January to September 2007, the number of passengers travelling with Air Berlin reached 17,225,274 (2006: 15,078,730). At 83.6 percent, capacity utilization for September 2007 shows a 2.4 percentage point increase compared to the corresponding month of the previous year (2006: 81.2 percent).
The accumulated capacity utilization rate for the first nine months of 2007 increased by 1.5 percentage points, i.e. from 76.1 to 77.6 percent. Flight revenue per available seat kilometer amounted to 6.02 € cents, i.e. slightly below the revenue figure recorded for the corresponding month of the previous year (-3.1 percent). In September 2007, the following German airports recorded exceptional growth for Air Berlin: Stuttgart (+43 percent), Dusseldorf (+42 percent), Munich (+29 percent) and Hamburg (+29 percent). Outside of Germany, Copenhagen took the lead with an increase of 70 percent, followed by Moscow (+55 percent), Vienna (+28 percent) and Palma de Mallorca (+20 percent).
In total, the Air Berlin Group (including its fully-owned subsidiary LTU) transported 2,898,992 passengers in September 2007, i.e. an 11 percent increase over the corresponding month of the previous year (09/2006: 2,612,480). In the first nine months of the year 2007, the two airline companies combined welcomed a total of 21,132,501 passengers on board (+9.2 percent). For the corresponding period of the previous year, this figure amounted to 19,344,339 passengers. At 84.3 percent, capacity utilization in September 2007 was 2.4 percentage points higher than in September 2006. The accumulated capacity utilization rate amounted to 77.7 percent (January to September 2007), i.e. an improvement of 1.2 percentage points (2006: 76.5 percent).
