The Chester Green Bough Hotel won EnjoyEngland’s Gold Award in 2006, and became England’s Best Small Hotel of the Year. The judges praised the hotel’s “attention to detail and outstanding service, excellent value for money and very high quality food”. The Chester Grosvenor and Spa meanwhile, won 2006 Large Hotel of the Year in the Visit Chester & Cheshire Northwest Annual Awards. The hotel – the North of England’s only Five Red Star hotel – was commended for its personal approach to customer care, and the development of its staff to ensure that guest expectations were exceeded.
The region are proud that 69% of Cheshire’s accommodation providers are assessed and graded by either The AA or Visit Britain – Quality in Tourism, considerably higher than the national average of 50%.
There’s a whole host of new hotel developments within the County. The MacDonalds Blossoms Hotel - situated in the very heart of the city, and one of Chester’s oldest hotels is going into hibernation for Winter and is being reborn as a new 4-star property in Spring 07.
A former telephone exchange on St John Street is being developed as 60-room hotel overlooking the largest Roman Amphitheatre in the country that the BBC called Britain's Lost Colosseum. The new venture - called The Exchange - will also include a new restaurant and will feature a unique courtyard as part of the development that's bound to be a hit with visitors wanting a place to chill out away from the hustle and bustle of it all.

Chester welcomes a new boutique hotel as part of a ‘HQ development’ that's currently taking shape on the site of the former Cheshire Constabulary Headquarters. The 80-bedroom hotel - part of the Abode Hotels group - will feature a restaurant with fantastic views across the oldest racecourse in Britain to the mountains of North Wales. The signature dishes come courtesy of Michelin-star chef, Michael Caines. The new hotel is close to Chester Castle that dates from the Norman invasion of Britain, Grosvenor Bridge that was the largest stone-built structure of its kind in the world when opened by Princess (later Queen) Victoria in 1832 and the River Dee that brought the Romans to Chester.
