History of spa development in India&aspects that influence the spa industry___
- The Spa Industry is growing exponentially. “The burgeoning middle class has disposable income to spend on luxury” says, Carina Chatlani, Managing Director of BODY BISTRO Ayurvedic Apothecary and Chairperson of the new Spa Association of India (SWAI). “They have a belief in wellness, which is becoming a priority, and see the benefits of an integrated type of healthcare (allopathic and alternative medicine).”
- The ancient time-honoured system of medicine and a traditional system of Wellness, Ayurveda, making a comeback. Ayurveda is globally emerging as an alternative health system supported by science.
- The global jet setter knows India is the place to visit; Aspects that affect traditional Indian culture & rich heritage include Yoga, Tantra, Meditation and Pranayama (breathing exercises) are also influencing the growth of the spa industry. Deep essence hidden in the ancient spiritual writings, which can become a part of the whole Spa Experience if converted in to some method or experience.
- Spiritual tourism – tourists are travelling in hoards to India to achieve some sort of balance and peace of mind.
- “The latest survey’s show 25% of the population is comprised of youth between the ages of 0 to 14,” says Dr. Manish Patwardhan, Ayurvedic Physician (BAMS). Nearly 69% population makes up the age 15 - 45 and the remaining 6% makes up the mature population.
- Good quality Spa treatments are being offered at very affordable prices.
- India emerging as one of the principal service industry is bringing in a lot of Multinationals to establish their branches in India which are creating enormous job opportunities. Expats (Indians who live abroad) are returning to India for jobs, bringing with them the “Visit Spa Luxury” culture.
- Eco-Tourism – due to local beliefs and rituals that respect that natural flora and fauna, eco-tourism, responsible travel to natural areas that conserve the environment and improves the well-being of local people, is escalating in India.
