Department of Convention, Event & Exhibition Management
Conventions, Events and Exhibitions represent a segment of the tourism industry that has been experiencing dramatic growth in recent years and is becoming especially lucrative. The intense competition among suppliers and destinations of the meetings industry worldwide converts the need to have a highly-skilled and trained personnel into an absolute prerequisite. TRINITY, responding to the needs of the market, has created a Department of Convention, Event and Exhibition Management.
The department offers this field of specialization to students who are interested in the theoretical and practical aspects of event, convention, exhibition and incentive travel management. The program covers all the essential aspects of research, design, planning, marketing, coordination and evaluation of events, conventions, exhibitions and incentives of various types and sizes along with an in-depth analysis of special event management. Students study “best practice” and acquire vital skills in promotion, organization and risk management. It is worth mentioning that some of their projects have been sent to companies organising such events and who were interested in seeing the students’ fresh and innovative ideas.
The courses of this major have been designed in collaboration with and are endorsed by
HAPCO (Hellenic Association of Professional Congress Organizers) and
EFAPCO (European Federation of the Associations of Professional Congress Organizers). Some of the core courses include
“Meeting and Event Planning Management”, “Event and Convention Marketing Management”, “Catering and Special Events Management”, “Special Effects in Convention & Event Management”, “Conference Center Management” and “Sport and Event Facilities Management”, just to mention some of them. There is also a wide choice of electives in the field, such as “Incentive Travel Management”, “Casino Management”, “Club Management”, “Corporate Hospitality Trends”, “Hotel, Spa and Resort Management”.
The following photos represent the 3D-models students have created for the course of
“Special Effects in Convention & Event Management”. The assignment was to create an environment for a national beauty pageant with an invited audience of 200 people.

The program also provides students with knowledge of current professional development and employment opportunities by networking with experts and practitioners in the field. Last semester students had the opportunity to meet Rob Davidson, Senior Lecturer in Business Travel and Tourism at the University of Westminster and business tourism industry analyst for Reed Travel Exhibitions, who gave an outstanding lecture on the important topic “Marketing Destinations and Venues for Conferences”. He also talked with students within a less formal, open-ended session. More visits and presentations from experts are scheduled in the forthcoming semesters.
Some students are interested in doing research and participate in research projects and international conferences. Last December during EFAPCO’s 2nd Annual Congress (7-9 December 2006), students who participated in the Federation’s European research project, presented the results of the investigation into the role of PCOs as business tourism agents and the evaluation of the current situation and market trends in the European Union.
Furthermore, students engage in field trips, such as visits to conference centres, 5-star hotels, golf courses, tourist attractions and suppliers directly linked to the conference industry. The fact that, right next to Trinity, lies one of the most important conference centres in the Mediterranean adds to their hands-on experience in the field.
