Families with teens take cruises together

Families with teenagers often find themselves in the struggle of picking a vacation spot that everyone can enjoy. ASTA’s 2008 Hot Spots for summer survey found that cruises are the most popular way for families with teens of all ages to spend time together with something to make everyone happy. Other favorite destinations included Disney World, Hawaii and Cancun.

“It is important to plan a vacation that the whole family can enjoy,” said Cheryl Hudak, CTC, ASTA president and CEO. “Our most recent survey shows that from spring break so summer destinations, having something for everyone is what remains the most important concern when traveling with teenagers.”

The survey found that a cruise to the Caribbean, Europe and various other destinations was the number one destination listed with 19.9 percent of responses. Travel agents felt cruises have a variety of activities for all ages and allowed teens some freedom in a controlled environment.  Variety of foods available, interesting activities at port, and value were also mentioned by many respondents, as being contributing factors to cruises’ number one ranking.

Perennial favorite Orlando with its warm weather and multiple theme parks to choose from came in second to cruising with teens. Warm weather and beaches were found to be essential when traveling with teens. Tropical destinations such as Hawaii and the Caribbean remain the most popular, offering beaches and outdoor activities to keep teens entertained.
