San Francisco CVB launches neighborhoods program

The San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau (SFCVB) has developed a new section on its Web site, to help visitors discover and explore the city from end to end. An interactive map visually guides visitors through each of the 15 major San Francisco areas: Fisherman's Wharf, North Beach, Chinatown, Embarcadero/Financial District, Union Square, SOMA/Yerba Buena, Mission District, Castro/Upper Market, Haight-Ashbury, Japantown/Fillmore, Civic Center, Nob Hill, Marina/Presidio, Golden Gate Park/Sunset, and Bayview/Candlestick Point. Each area includes several smaller neighborhoods, a total of 49 in all.

For each area, information is provided on events, attractions, dining, shopping, hotels and tours.  There's also a photo gallery and description of the neighborhood and its history.

"There is no such thing as a 'typical San Francisco neighborhood,'" says Joe D'Alessandro, SFCVB president and CEO. "Every neighborhood contributes its own unique flavor to the visitor experience. This new addition to our Web site is meant to help visitors enjoy these distinctive "Only in San Francisco" enclaves and experience the City the way locals do."
