For the first time in 10 years, a new low-cost scheduled transatlantic air service between any European airport and Fort Lauderdale, took off yesterday (22 May). Zoom Airlines’ inaugural flight from London Gatwick to Fort Lauderdale took off at almost full capacity with 241 passengers onboard revolutionising air travel to one of the most popular US summer holiday destinations.
Launching the service, Jonathan Hinkles, Managing Director of Zoom UK said: “We are delighted to be launching the start of the London to Fort Lauderdale service which has proved extremely popular with not only the UK, but the European travelling public. What’s appealing is that all our flights are high standard at low-cost and offer a full scheduled service onboard with economy and premium economy seating available.
“As a holiday destination, the resort of Fort Lauderdale is renowned for its constant sunshine boasting over 23 miles of beautiful beaches and an abundance of activities for all the family, that it’s easy to see its appeal. We have now added Fort Lauderdale to the choice of affordable holiday destinations for the British and mainland European travelling public who now don’t need to re-route via an additional US hub.”
Nicki E. Grossman, President of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Convention & Visitors Bureau, said: “What a wonderful holiday place for our friends from the UK. Pound for pound sterling, they can't find better value and we welcome Zoom to Greater Fort Lauderdale’s sunny shores.”
