Only direct air service from London to San Diego takes off
Transatlantic air travel received a welcome boost last Friday when the only direct non-stop flight between Europe and San Diego took off.
Zoom Airlines’ inaugural flight from London Gatwick to San Diego took off with over 200 passengers onboard, revolutionising air travel to one of the most popular US summer holiday destinations.
The low-cost full scheduled service will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays with fares starting from as low as £349 return including all taxes and charges. The commencement of this new route confirms Zoom’s position as being the leading low-fare airline across the Atlantic.
Launching the service, Hugh Boyle, co-owner of Zoom Airlines said: “We are delighted to be launching the start of the London to San Diego service which has proved extremely popular with not only the UK, but the European travelling public. San Diego was notable as being the largest US city without direct European air service. It is testament to our commitment in revolutionising the low-fares transatlantic market that Zoom is the first airline to offer this direct service. Our direct non-stop flights to San Diego offer a convenient service allowing customers to avoid the need to change planes en route.
“What’s appealing is that all our flights are high standard at low-cost and offer a full scheduled service onboard with economy and premium economy seating available. We have now added San Diego to the choice of affordable holiday destinations for the British and mainland European travelling public.”
Caroline Beteta, Executive Director California Tourism and Trade Commission says: “We are absolutely delighted that Zoom has put San Diego on the map with this new route. San Diego is the second largest city in California and for many represents the epitome of the Californian lifestyle with its beaches, great climate and relaxed atmosphere. We hope that people will take advantage of this direct route to experience southern California.”
San Diego offers 70 miles of spectacular beaches and a year round Mediterranean climate. Being only two hours drive to Disneyland in Anaheim and only half an hour’s drive to Mexico, San Diego offers an abundance of options as an impressive holiday destination.
Zoom operates an ‘easyJet-style’ booking service with flexible one-way fares and the flights offer Economy and Premium Economy services with allocated seating, meals and soft drinks included in the fare in all cabins, and an enhanced service available in the Premium Economy cabin.
