Spirit Airlines renews its contract with ARINC
ARINC Incorporated today announced Spirit Airlines, a customer since 1995, has renewed and upgraded its ARINC GLOBALinkSM data link communications contract for an additional 5 years.

The Florida-based ultra-low-cost carrier recently integrated several new third-party flight applications over its VHF ACARS® service to enhance operating efficiency. These include an air data performance program and a weight/balance application. Spirit has also installed an ACARS management program to deliver enhanced weather information and facilitate greater use of text messaging instead of voice by Spirit’s air/ground crews.

“Spirit Airlines is pleased with the support we have received from all of our vendors during the implementation of our new flight operations applications, and especially that of ARINC,” said Jeff Carlson, Vice President of Flight Operations for Spirit Airlines. “The new GLOBALink agreement is consistent with our goals and plans for data link, and the 5-year contract term reflects our desire for a long-term partnership with ARINC.”

“ARINC has been happy to work closely with Spirit Airlines, leveraging their VHF ACARS service with the latest productivity-enhancing applications,” stated Ron Hawkins, ARINC Vice President, Commercial Aviation Solutions. “We appreciate this renewal and look forward to helping them implement even more advanced capabilities such as cost-indexing in the near future.”

ARINC has provided Spirit Airlines with digital data link service over the GLOBALink/VHF network using efficient VDLM2 digital protocol since 2004. ARINC has also provided Spirit with Digital ATIS since 2001. Vicky Karantzavelou - Friday, June 27, 2008
