Malaysia ranks fifth in Singapore's tourism market
Malaysia ranked fifth in Singapore's top five visitor-generating markets last month, according to the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) Friday.

STB said out of 828,000 visitors that Singapore welcomed in May which was a record for the month, about 52,000 were Malaysians.

Indonesia continues to lead the pack with 136,000 visitors, followed by India (103,000 visitors), the People's Republic of China (86,000 visitors) and Australia (66,000 visitors).

These five markets accounted for 53 per cent of Singapore's total visitor arrivals for the month, STB said.

It said visitor days were estimated to reach 3.5 million days, an increase of 12.1 per cent in comparison with May last year.

Singapore gazetted hotels were estimated to reap S$182 million (S$1=RM2.39) in room revenue, representing a growth of 19.3 per cent over May last year.

The average room rate was estimated at S$249 and the average occupancy rate for hotels was estimated to reach 82 per cent during the month, STB said. Vicky Karantzavelou - Monday, June 30, 2008
