Grimaldi Group: Nine new maritime links for passengers and freight
Through an unprecedented initiative, the Grimaldi Group (Naples) has announced the contemporaneous launch of nine new motorways of the sea for passengers and freight. The new maritime links will be operating as from the end of January and will be managed by Grimaldi Lines with the “Low Cost” formula through the deployment of the most modern Cruise Ferries as well as traditional ferries, linking Italy (including Sicily and Sardinia) to Spain, Tunisia and Malta.

The new and innovative Motorways of the Sea for passengers and freight are the following:
- Porto Torres / Barcelona / Porto Torres
- Civitavecchia / Porto Torres / Civitavecchia;
- Civitavecchia / Catania / Civitavecchia;
- Civitavecchia / Trapani / Civitavecchia;
- Civitavecchia / Malta / Civitavecchia;
- Genoa / Malta / Genoa;
- Genoa / Catania / Genoa;
- Catania / Malta / Catania;
- Trapani / Tunis / Trapani.

Moreover, the standards offered on four Motorways of the Sea for freight and passengers have been remarkably improved: Civitavecchia / Tunis; Salerno / Palermo; Palermo / Tunis and Salerno / Tunis, will now be performed by one of the most modern, fast and comfortable Ferries of the Mediterranean.

Emanuele Grimaldi, co-managing director of the Grimaldi Group declared “the contemporaneous launch of nine new passenger lines with low cost tariffs confirms the Grimaldi Group's commitment in promoting new sustainable transport solutions, both economically and ecologically. New services accessible to anybody, at low cost and with a minimal environmental impact, is our answer to the economic crisis Europe is facing nowadays: the new routes of Grimaldi Lines will contribute to the economic and tourist development in all regions covered by our Motorways of the Sea Network, mainly Sardinia, Sicily, Malta and Tunisia, as well as Central Italy and Spain.”
“I believe that, for some new routes, such as the Civitavecchia/Porto Torres and the Barcelona/Porto Torres, thanks to our Cruise Ferries deployed, we can offer a service able to compete economically with the low cost airline companies, by offering upper quality standards”
continued Emanuele Grimaldi.

Through the new services, the Neapolitan group confirms its leadership in the European transport network for passengers and freight, bringing to over 30 the number of Grimaldi Lines Motorways of the Sea between Italy, Spain, France, Tunisia, Malta and Libya. These are in addition to the Motorways of the Sea already operated between Italy and Greece, and in the Aegean Sea by the Greek subsidiary Minoan Lines and those run in the Baltic sea by the Finnish subsidiary Finnlines.
