Commission gives green light to state support for Munster/Osnabruck Airport in Germany
The European Commission has decided not to raise any objections to German authorities giving financial support to a project developing Munster/Osnabruck Airport into an airport offering new intercontinental connections and air cargo services.
The development project is financed by the capital increases of the public shareholder of the airport operator worth 49 m. euros as well as an 11m. euros grant issued by Land North Rhine-Westphalia. The current runway will be extended from 2,170 metres to 3,000 metres, which will enable the airport to offer longer medium-haul flights and intercontinental connections as well as air cargo services. The Commission decided to approve the measure because it is not prejudicial to the common interest as it is necessary and proportionate to reach objectives of Community interest.
