Munich Airport ranks yet again among the global top five
As in 2008, Munich Airport has again achieved the number five position in the World Airport Awards 2009, securing its status as one of the world's best airports. In the global rankings, only Seoul, Hong Kong, Singapore and Zurich scored higher than Munich. With this result, the Bavarian hub was outranked by another European airport for the first time since it began its reign of four consecutive years as the European champion. The survey, which was conducted by Skytrax, a London-based independent aviation research institute, had a total of 8.6 million respondents - more than in any previous year.
"We are very pleased to see that we have obviously been successful in maintaining our high service and quality standards even when measured against the world's best," commented Dr Michael Kerkloh, the CEO of FMG, the Munich Airport operating company. He added, "I'd like to extend my congratulations to our colleagues in Zurich for their strong performance. Naturally this is an incentive for us to take the title back to Bavaria again next year."
In two categories Munich Airport was actually rated as one of the world's top three airports, namely in the rankings for the World's Best International Transit Airports and Best Immigration Service among the 190 airports assessed in the survey.
In the World Airport Awards, passengers take a close look at international airports and airlines every year. They evaluate airports under 40 criteria, including quality of handling and services, staff courtesy and efficiency, shopping and leisure amenities and transit facilities. The individual results for the various categories are due to be released soon.
