The festival was originally started in 1997 to provide a platform for Creole music and culture and to showcase the talents from Dominica. Local Dominican artists are now joined by acts from across the Caribbean, Europe, Africa and America as the festival has grown in popularity over the years.
The World Creole Music Festival is widely seen as one of the only truly indigenous music events in Dominica and the Eastern Caribbean. The event takes place in the Windsor Park Stadium in Roseau and is one of Dominica’s largest annual events.
This year headline acts including Maxi Priest, Morgan Heritage and Patrick St. Eloi will be joined by a number of stars in the Creole world including Swinging Stars, DLUX, Sweet Mickey and local favourite Michele Henderson.
The festival takes place in the lead-up to Dominica’s Independence Day celebrations on November 3rd 2009. Some of the Independence events include a heritage day in Colihaut and National Day which promote the different aspects of the island’s culture.
