Americans with Disabilities Act -ADA- Seminar for the lodging industry
An educational seminar for the lodging industry about the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) is being conducted in Monterey, California on Wednesday, September 24, 2003. The seminar is a cooperative effort from the California Hotel & Lodging Association (CH&LA), the California Association of Bed & Breakfast Inns (CABBI) & the Asian American Hotel Owners Association (AAHOA).

James O. Abrams, President & CEO of CH&LA and an active member of the California State Bar will be presenting the issues surrounding the many lawsuits plaguing the lodging industry and will discuss accessibility compliance for the lodging industry in this two hour educational seminar being held at the Monterey Marriott. The complexities and uncertainties of ADA compliance for the lodging industry many times has property owners and managers defending themselves in lawsuits, rather than focusing on running their properties, said Mr. Abrams. Many lodging establishments simply need to know their obligations and requirements to be able to take the appropriate steps for compliance, which will help keep them out of court.

Moe Ammar, President of Pacific Grove Chamber of Commerce has indicated that this seminar is very timely. I personally know of 11 properties in the area that are having legal issues regarding ADA compliance, stated Mr. Ammar. This issue is not just affecting the lodging industry, but the whole hospitality industry - I`ve heard from many restaurants in the area that have also had ADA lawsuits. This seminar is an opportunity for area businesses to become educated and comply with ADA requirements to protect themselves from lawsuits.

This seminar is just one component of CH&LA`s ongoing educational programs, providing information and services to the benefit of the lodging industry. Vicky Karantzavelou - Friday, September 19, 2003
