Tips and advice for holidaymakers
Travelwise on Holiday FM with ABTA and the FCO
Monday, August 29, 2005
ABTA has joined forces with the Foreign & Commonwealth Office and Holiday FM to produce helpful tips and advice for holidaymakers in resorts in the Canaries, Balearics the Spanish Costa`s, Greece, Cyprus and Malta to assist them in having a stress-free holiday.

The ABTA `Travelwise` branded messages will be broadcast in twice-daily updates along with two FCO advice messages on Holiday FM the entertainment-based, English language, Capital FM -powered radio network. The broadcasts will inform listeners of travel issues including how best to deal with delays, being a victim of crime and personal safety whilst travelling abroad.

Although these generic messages have been pre-recorded, will be quickly replaced by more topical or serious advice if an issue in a specific destination arises that will affect holidaymakers while they are away including any serious climatic changes which might consequently endanger their lives.

Tim Foster CEO and Founder of Holiday FM said: We are proud of what we have created between us and are delighted to be working with the FCO and ABTA to create a network of stations which can carry emergency messages in times of crisis - meanwhile, Capital FM should take the credit for providing us all with great music and presenters whilst IRN keeps us up to date with all the latest news and sport wherever we travel.

ABTA President Martin Wellings said: ABTA`s objectives of `building confidence in travel` coincide with Holiday FM`s aims exactly and so we have been very keen to support the station network. We hope that these messages will be helpful and useful to people while away on holiday.

An FCO spokesperson said: The FCO wants to reach people with important safety messages before they go on holiday and while they are there. We are keen to use all possible ways to help people ensure that they have a fun and safe holiday.
