REPORT - WTM2005: Switzerland Tourism (ST) has signed a marketing initiative with Unesco to promote all World Heritage sites in the country. The agreement is valid until the end of 2006.
Seven sites are on Unesco’s list - Bern old town, Bellinzona castles, St Gallen and Mustair convents, the Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschhorn, the Monte San Giorgio, and the region of Entlebuch.
With this agreement, ST strengthens Switzerland’s image by emphasising its natural and cultural attractions. Interestingly, Switzerland has what is claimed to be the world`s highest concentration of museums - 980.
ST also recently introduced a third themed route for independent travellers - Art & Architecture, following on from ‘Gourmet & Wine’ and ‘Luxury & Design’. The A&A route guides visitors through 26 cities, introducing places of interest from all regions, styles, and eras.
World-renowned architects work in Switzerland, including Swiss-born architects like Le Corbusier, Mario Botta, Herzog & de Meuron, and Renzo Piano.
