Finland Convention Bureau takes over incentive sector
Monday, November 28, 2005
From the beginning of 2006, the Finland Convention Bureau (FCB) will begin promoting Finland as a destination for incentive travel. Previously, this has been the responsibility of the Finnish Tourist Board (FTB), while the FCB has focused entirely on promoting the meetings and congress market in Finland.

“Transferring incentive travel sector to the FCB clarifies the division of duties between these two organisations. The operations of the FCB now cover marketing to international associations and companies on an equal level,” says Tuula Lindberg, FCB Managing Director.

“One of our first steps will be to undertake research into the current state of the corporate event sector in Finland,” Lindberg continues.

Marketing efforts will be focused on key markets that include Germany, France, Spain, Great Britain, the Benelux countries and Italy. “We will work in close co-operation with FTB’s overseas offices and transportation companies,” Lindberg states.

In accordance with the new outline of duties, one member of staff from FTB will transfer to the FCB in the beginning of January.

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
