Corinthia Hotels in the Gambia, Hungary and Malta
Wednesday, December 14, 2005
Corinthia Hotels International announced that three of its 20 four and five star city and resort hotels were voted as the ‘Leading Hotels’ in their respective countries at the 12th edition of the World Travel Awards held at London’s Royal Opera House on the 13th November of this year. These are the Corinthia Atlantic hotel in Banjul, capital of the Gambia, Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal in Budapest, Hungary, and Corinthia Palace Hotel in Attard, Malta.

Presenting the coveted trophies during a glittering ceremony, World Travel Awards president, Graham E. Cooke, said: “Being a WTA winner is a true endorsement of a company’s achievements and services by fellow travel professionals who are highly selective in their judgment.”

The 12th annual 2005 World Travel Awards were decided by a poll of 176,000 travel professionals in over 140 countries worldwide, including 110,000 travel agents. Voting started in May of this year and ended in September. During this five-month period 3,500 different nominations competed, with more than two million individual voting decisions completed, returned and processed using an online voting form.

Corinthia’s Group Director of Sales and marketing Mr Geoff Andrew commented, “We are extremely pleased to be able to add these prestigious trophies to our ever-growing collection of international accolades. Several of our upscale hotels have received a number of awards over the last two years. Indeed, the honour bestowed on our Corinthia Grand Hotel Royal is the third in a row for this unique hotel, having already received Europe’s ‘Best Hotel Architecture Award’ and recently also selected to join the privileged list of ‘The Most Famous Hotels in the World’”.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
