US tourists to Egypt increase by 15% in 2005
Thursday, January 05, 2006
Minister of Tourism Zuhir Garana said that the number of American tourists to Egypt increased in 2005 by 15 percent compared to 2004.

The Minister said the percentage indicated a booming tourist sector in Egypt following the sharp decline in the wake of the 9/11 attacks on the United States in 2001.

Meanwhile, a total of 4.3 million tourists visited Egypt from May to October 2005, according to a report by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics.

The report said that tourists have spent some LE4.5 billion and that tourist nights reached 46 million.

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
