Readers of Travel & Leisure magazine, an international journal belonging to the American Express Company, voted Santorini<.>, Greece, as the most favoured island in Europe for 2001. In the same article, Crete was chosen as the fourth most popular island, followed by Rhodes.
Santorini is also favoured elsewhere in the world, since it came seventh among the most popular islands in the world. A press release from the National Organisation of Tourism (EOT) said that the island is also recognised as the only European Island to rank among the category`s top ten.
