GetThere to let air travellers search by price
Tuesday, January 31, 2006
Corporate online travel reservation system GetThere has enhanced its booking capability by allowing users to search for flights by price as well as by date and time. This facility is expected to be available by the end of the first quarter this year for businesses whose travel management companies use the Sabre GDS (global distribution system), and later this year for those whose travel is booked through Amadeus, Galileo or Worldspan.

Floyd Widener, vice president of GetThere and corporate travel at Sabre Travel Network, said the feature had been developed at the specific request of several European customers.

“This moves GetThere even closer to the look and feel of leading leisure travel booking sites such as Travelocity or lastminute.com,” Widener said. “As we incorporate more no-frill carriers and low-fare flights into the system, this capability is likely to become increasingly significant.”

GetThere’s pricing display will give users the ability to specify a number of variables that may impact the price of a booking, including alternative airports, departure and arrival time, duration of travel, non-stop flights and specific airlines.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
