Air France and KLM launch combined internet check-in service
Friday, April 07, 2006
A new milestone was reached in the area of e-services when the combined Air France and KLM Internet check-in service went live. KLM passengers can now also check in online for Air France flights and Air France destinations.

Passengers also stand to benefit from several improvements: swift access to reservations, a single boarding pass for the entire journey and Internet check-in options for more than 90% of all airports.

Passengers can check in online between 30 and 1 hour prior to departure. In some cases (for KLM flights to the US and for flights operated by Northwest Airlines from Amsterdam, Rome, Frankfurt and Mumbai), Internet check in is possible between 24 and 1 hour prior to departure. Travelers can visit klm site to check in for their flight, select a seat and print a boarding pass. After checking in, passengers traveling with hold baggage can head straight to the dedicated baggage drop off points at the airports.

Of all KLM passengers departing on an e-ticket from Schiphol, some 30% currently check in online. Internet check in is one of the fastest growing e-services offered by KLM and Air France.

At the start of this month, no less than 76% of all the tickets sold by KLM were e-tickets. With effect from May 2006, KLM accepts all e-tickets issued by its SkyTeam partners and vice versa. This means that from now, passengers only need a single e-ticket for flights operated by the different SkyTeam carriers.

How will the currently developing financial crisis and oil prices rally affect the tourism industry?.

they will have temporary and minimal effect and the situation will stabilize in a year or two

we should be looking at a restructuring in the international tourism movements and trends

it is still too early to access the impact on world tourism, medium or long term

we will see more tourism closer to home, and less international travel
