Terrorists stroke again in Egypt, tourists killed
Tuesday, April 25, 2006
Thirty people were killed and more than 100 were injured in terrorist attacks in the Egyptian Sinai resort of Dahab. The explosions took place at the Nelson Restaurant, the Aladdin Cafeteria and the Ghazala Supermarket.

Police said the blasts hit the central part of Dahab, where there are many shops, restaurants, bars, and guesthouses. The explosions took place shortly after nightfall when the streets were crowded with holidaymakers.

The Dahab region gathers lot of tourists especially from Europe and Israel. Many tourists are from Russia and UK. Many Egyptians were among the casualties as they were celebrating their spring holiday Sham el-Nassim.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack bombings until now and the Egyptian President, Hosni Mubarak condemned the attack by characterizing it as a wicked terrorist act.

President Bush gave his condolences to the family victims and to the Egyptian Government. The Israeli administration said that it had received warnings regarding the incidents and that the rumours unfortunately come true.

64 people – mainly tourists- have been killed by suicide attackers in the resort of Sharm el Sheikh in July in 2005. Bombings in the resorts of Taba and Ras Shitan, near the Israeli border, killed 34 people in October 2004.

Poll
How will the currently developing financial crisis and oil prices rally affect the tourism industry?.

they will have temporary and minimal effect and the situation will stabilize in a year or two

we should be looking at a restructuring in the international tourism movements and trends

it is still too early to access the impact on world tourism, medium or long term

we will see more tourism closer to home, and less international travel
