Reed Travel Exhibitions to take management of CBITM
Monday, May 29, 2006
Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE) and Reed Exhibitions China have announced that the management of CBITM will, after completing its second year in Beijing in July 2006, move to RTE and its specialist meetings and incentive team led by Paul Kennedy, MBE, Group Exhibition Director.

Dan Londero, President of Reed Exhibitions China, said “The repositioning of CBITM (to be rebranded as CIBTM for the 2007 event) within the portfolio of meetings and incentive shows is a logical development, combining the expertise of the teams based in Beijing and London.”

Paul Kennedy added “CIBTM 2007 will sit alongside EIBTM and our recently launched GIBTM (Abu Dhabi, March 2007) enabling the broadening of services to our international destination, hotel and specialist supplier clients. We will leverage positive economies of scale to benefit our customer base throughout the global meetings industry. CIBTM is set to become the premier event for the meetings industry in China and in the immediate region, bringing together the inbound, outbound and domestic markets. CIBTM will provide further opportunities to provide professional education programmes, high quality business networking and enable us to promote the importance of the meetings industry as an economic generator to new and emerging markets. We will also, as part of our commitment, provide support for elevating the role and importance of the meeting profession.”

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
