Virgin Nigeria launces flights between Lagos and Dubai
Monday, June 05, 2006
Virgin Nigeria, the fully private sector airline of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, launched thrice weekly services between Lagos and Dubai. Flights will operate from Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos departing on Sundays, Tuesdays and Fridays and arriving at Dubai International Airport the next day.

Conrad Clifford, Chief Executive Officer of Virgin Nigeria commented: “We are delighted to be flying the Nigerian flag to Dubai, which is the third long haul destination to be added to our route network in under a year of operation. Dubai is a major business centre and popular holiday destination and we are sure that our passengers will enjoy the high quality service and world class product that Virgin Nigeria offers. Passengers can also take advantage of convenient onward connections to Abuja, Port Harcourt, Kano and other West African routes.”

All Virgin Nigeria flights between Lagos and Dubai will be operated by Virgin Nigeria’s A340-300 aircraft. The launch of services to Dubai brings the number of destinations operated by Virgin Nigeria to 12 in just under a year of operation.

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
