Baton Rouge CVB selects new destination sales manager
Monday, July 10, 2006
The Baton Rouge Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (BRACVB) has appointed Wendie Franklin as Destination Sales Manager. Prior to accepting a position with the BRACVB, Franklin worked in the hospitality industry for six years as the sales coordinator at Baton Rouge’s Homewood Suites by Hilton.

Franklin is a member of the Young Professional Black Women of Louisiana, the NAACP and the Wedding Planners of Baton Rouge. Franklin was also recognized in May 2006 by the United States Army 321st unit for work during Operation Iraqi Freedom assisting soldiers with accommodations.

I am very excited to be continuing my career in hospitality with the BRACVB, said Franklin. Baton Rouge is growing and has an abundance of great and exciting things to offer. This is a great opportunity to promote a city that I love!

In the newly created position of Destination Sales Manager, Franklin will work with both tourism and meeting professionals to bring their groups to Baton Rouge. By concentrating on the multi-cultural markets, Franklin’s efforts will position Baton Rouge more favorably as a destination.

“We are pleased to have such an asset join our team,” said Paul Arrigo, BRACVB President and CEO. “I am confident that Ms. Franklin’s skills and experience will greatly benefit the mission of the BRACVB and help attract visitors from the multi-cultural markets.”

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
