Major cities in Spain to see opening of new hotels

Infrastructure developments will reinforce Spain image in the hospitality sector as new hotels are opening in the country. Many international hotel groups as well as local hotel companies will launch series of hotels beginning from 2006 with final opening to take place in 2008 in major cities of Spain.

Andalusia

Hospes Palacio San Blas opens in 2008, in the 15th century former home of the Spanish explorer Ponce de Leon in the centre of Jerez.

Hospes Palacio del Bailio opens in September 2006 in Cordoba’s old quarter. T

Barcelona

Habitat Sky Hotel opens in 2007 and will be a sky-high building. The hotel is being designed by French architect Dominique Perrault better known for building Paris’ National Library and the upcoming ‘La Caja Magica’, a new football stadium in Madrid.

Emporda Golf Resort open summer 2006, is located in Girona on the grounds of the 36-hole Emporda golf course.

La Rioja

Hotel Marques de Riscal opens 1 September 2006. It is designed by famous architect Frank O. Ghery, who designed the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao.

Valencia

Hilton Valencia opens in October 2006, facing the Palacio de Congresos in Valencia.

Sheraton Real de Faula Golf Resorts & Spa opens 14 July in Benidorm.

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
