Focus on air traffic management
EUROCONTROL develops environment training course
Friday, August 18, 2006
As part of its objective to contribute to a better understanding and increased awareness of the environmental impact of aviation, EUROCONTROLis currently developing a new training course which focuses on aviation and the role of air traffic management.

The training course is aimed at providing all operational staff with a good understanding of issues associated with the environment and aviation, as well as indications of what action to take in their daily work to help mitigate the impact of aviation on the environment. While aviation provides substantial economic and social benefits, a balance needs to be found to enable efficient and sustainable growth.

“Air traffic management does not have the solution, but it does have a role to play in mitigating the environmental impact of aviation, while meeting high safety standards and capacity requirements,” says Mr Bo Redeborn, Director Air Traffic Management Strategies at EUROCONTROL. “Environmental issues such as noise and emissions are of increasing global concern and all parts of the air transport supply chain should work collectively towards sustainable air traffic development,” he continues.

The training course specifications will be completed during the fourth quarter of the year.

This development follows the web-based training package launched earlier this year at the Aviation and Environment Summit in Geneva, Switzerland, which is freely available at the EUROCONTROL environment website.

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
