Zambian Airways have acquired two Boeing 737-200 aircraft with an option to buy a third early in 2007. The aircraft will be operating a new double daily service between Lusaka and Johannesburg, a new direct daily service between Ndola and Johannesburg and the established daily schedule between Lusaka and Dar-es-Salaam. Announced at the same time is the launch of a further new route between Lusaka and Solwezi.

The New Johannesburg services will start on 29th October 2007 with Lusaka to Dar-es-Salaam and Solwezi commencing on 01st November.

The aircraft have been purchased from Safair, with the first aircraft already in Lusaka and painted in full Zambian airways livery.

Donald MacDonald, the Scottish entrepreneur and Managing Director of Zambian Airways said at the official commissioning ceremony “This marks a vey significant milestone for us. As a company we are moving into the demanding task of owning and operating a fleet of jet aircraft and we are demonstrating for all to see that Zambia is not afraid of the challenge of operating safe, reliable, regional air transport at a price ordinary people can afford.”
