Expansion of the security controlled area at Brussels Airport
Friday, December 29, 2006
On 2 January 2007 the area with the highest security status at Brussels Airport will be considerably extended.

The airport thus implements a measure imposed by the federal government in accordance with the European directives on the matter.

The new measure will not only result in an even better security, the handling of aircraft at the gates will also run more smoothly as the staff will not have to pass the screening points time and again during operations.

However the expansion of the security-controlled area, together with several other measures, causes an increase in security costs, which, in conformity with the regulation of the airport tariffs will be recouped as of 1 April 2007.

As a result the total passenger charge on departure will amount to 23.94 euros (including indexation) as from 1 April 2007. The unity for the calculation of the landing charges will likewise be adjusted and will as from 1 April 2007 amount to 2.05 euros (including indexation).

Brussels Airport, in consultation with the airport community, has done its utmost to keep the additional costs as low as possible.

At the end of 2005 Brussels Airport announced that it offers the airlines a stable regulated tariff system ending until 2011.

During this period, regulated airport tariffs will only be increased through indexation or because of any changes the government may impose with regard to the security regime at the airport.

In spite of the present tariff increase, Brussels Airport remains an airport with regulated tariffs below the average regulated tariffs of most European airports of comparable size.
