Plan tabled to reduce/increase airport tax
Monday, November 08, 1999

Greece's airport tax  is about to see some major changes. New legislation foresees a tax reduction for flights to  European Union member states, and on the other hand a tax increase on flights to all other destinations. According to the planned legislation, the airport tax on flights to EU destinations drop from 20 Ecus to 14 Ecus. But the tax on domestic flights increase from 10 Ecus to 14 Ecus, and all flights to outside the EU increase by at least two Ecus. If the legislation is passed, tourism packages to Greece from EU member states become cheaper, provided there's no domestic flights in the package. Packages from all other destinations, such as North America, Japan and Eastern Europe, however, become more expensive.
