Zoom challenges BA monopoly with new Bermuda flights
Friday, April 20, 2007
Zoom Airlines will introduce low-cost direct flights between London Gatwick and Bermuda and will become the first to compete with British Airways on the route since 1967 – breaking the longest-running monopoly on any air route in the world according to the carrier.
Passengers will also be able to plan two-centre breaks in Bermuda and New York, flying direct from London Gatwick to New York’s JFK and returning via Bermuda or vice versa.
John Boyle, co-owner of Zoom Airlines Ltd, said: “These services will offer people a high quality but affordable way of travelling direct to Bermuda. Competition is long overdue and Zoom’s arrival will provide a welcome alternative for people who’ve had no choice but to pay BA’s high fares to Bermuda for the last 40 years.”
“What makes this even more exciting is the opportunity of a twin stay in New York and Bermuda with Zoom scheduled direct flights from London Gatwick.”
