Friday, April 27, 2007
Rhys Jarvis has been appointed as the new European Business Development Director for SideStep and he will be responsible for maintaining and developing SideStep’s relationships with European based airlines, as well as all advertising relationships. He will also look after marketing and relationships with strategic suppliers in Europe.

Prior to joining SideStep, Jarvis was Head of Online Marketing and Strategy, Hertz Europe where he was responsible for the company’s Pan-European online marketing strategy and Online Customer Experience. Jarvis has broad online and travel experience having also held senior positions at Air New Zealand and having been responsible for the new communications strategy for Internet and Intranet for the FSA in London.

“Rhys will be a great asset to the European team. His strategic online experience is extensive and will help build and expand SideStep in the European market.” said Rob Solomon, president and CEO, SideStep.

“As US market leader and a pioneer in travel search technology, SideStep is an exciting and innovative company to join. I am looking forward to helping grow the business and secure its market leading position in the UK and Europe,” said Jarvis.

Poll
How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
