Kenya Airways flight crashes in Cameroon with 114 people on board

The Kenya Airways flight 507 operated by a 737-800 aircraft which departed from Douala, Cameroon on Saturday May 5 at 00:05 local time and was due to arrive in Nairobi at 06:15 has been crashed as the carrier reported.

The last message from the aircraft was received by the control tower in Douala immediately after take off. There were 105 passengers and 9 crew members on board. All passengers nationality has been indentified.

The airplane’s wreckages found on a mangrove swamp, 20km South-East of Douala, on the planned flight path.

At this time, search and rescue operations are in progress and we have no confirmed information about survivors or any possible casualties. The search and rescue team which includes the KQ team is still at the accident scene, the carrier said.

A coordination centre has been set up from Saturday where most of the Cameroonian Government authorities including police, state police, Air Force, Cameroon Civil Aviation Authorities, ASECNA, the Army, National Intelligence Agency and Kenya Airways team are present.

Kenya Airways have opened a crisis management centre in Embakasi to monitor the situation and information is being disseminated on a regular basis.

An international passenger information centre has been opened in South Africa where all questions can be addressed. The public enquiry number is +27 11 2071100.

A local passenger information centre has been opened at the Intercontinental Hotel where all questions can be addressed. The public enquiry numbers are 3200353/3200354/3274349.
