Rescue teams are still searching for survivors at Kenya Airways plane wreck which was located 20km South-East of Douala, on the planned flight path. At this time, we have no confirmed information about survivors and casualties, stated the airline.

A support team of 26 Kenya Airways technical, flight operations and trained counselling staff left for Douala on Saturday. An additional support team of 14 people that include counsellors and French speaking personnel from Kenya Airways were dispatched from Nairobi, to assist the team already on the ground in Douala.

A briefing from the Chief Investigator and government officials started in Douala yesterday (7th May)(10:00 am Kenya Time) for the accident.

The site is difficult to access as the most of the aircraft is submerged under mud and waterand clearing of the bushes has already started. We will continue to provide confirmed information as we receive it, added Kenya Airways.

A support tent has been set up close to the site with counsellors and the Kenya Airways doctor at hand.

Also on the flight were family members of passengers on board flight KQ 507. These were 1 family from South Africa, 1 from Kenya and 2 from India.

We have processed travel approval for 19 next of kin, representing 15 passengers. On arrival, the team have set up a helpdesk at the airport to facilitate the hotel accommodation and transport to the hotels, said Kenya Airways.

As mentioned in our press briefing yesterday, the organization will facilitate travel assistance. Kenya Airways will also arrange for local accommodation for a reasonable period, for up to two next of kin, per boarded passenger. It is important that family members who wish to travel have the requisite travel documents.

The Kenya Airways Crisis Management Centre at the head office in Embakasi, the Passenger Support Centre at the Hotel Intercontinental, Nairobi and the International Passenger Information Centre, Johannesburg will continue to operate on a 24 hour basis.
