No hope for survivors on Kenya flight
Wednesday, May 09, 2007
Kenya Airways Chief Executive, who is on the ground in Douala, has confirmed that the remains of 29 passengers were recovered last night (7th May). At this time, it seems unlikely that there are any survivors.

It appears the aircraft broke up on impact. This inevitably and distressingly means that the bodies on board have also been badly damaged. This will make the identification process more complicated and time consuming.
Kenya Airways are bringing in victim identification experts including forensic and DNA personnel, together with equipment from the UK and elsewhere. They are expected today (9th May) to assist Cameroon authorities in their work.

Access to site for families is restricted because of the investigation process. However, the Cameroon government coordination committee is reviewing this position, following a request from Mr. Titus Naikuni to allow controlled access to the site.

The Chief Executive have gone personally on site to see for himself the conditions and work being carried out by the Cameroon government on behalf of KQ.

Kenya Airways has been relaying this news to next of kin of the passengers’ and crew. Counselling services are also being provided on an ongoing basis, both in Nairobi and Douala.
