Friday, June 15, 2007
Roger Craig Swagerty, long-time hotel owner and a former town councilor and mayor of the Town of Red River, has been named a Deputy Secretary of the New Mexico Tourism Department, effective Monday (June 11, 2007).

“I look forward to working with an outstanding team of tourism marketing and promotion professionals, as well as helping the department build on its successful marketing efforts,” Swagerty said. “We live in a great state, with an abundance of cultural and natural resources and it is a dream of mine to be able to share the story of why we are a unique and special place.”

Swagerty owns and manages The Riverside in Red River. He also owns and leases several retail stores in Red River. He makes his home in Albuquerque with his wife, Cindy, and son Allen.

“We welcome Craig to our team,” said Michael Cerletti, Secretary of the Tourism Department. “He has long been a dedicated member of the New Mexico tourism community, and we are confident he will help us keep moving forward in our efforts to promote our beautiful Land of Enchantment.”

How do you expect luxury travel to perform in times of economic downturn?.

Providers of luxury travel products are going to witness shorter stays by their customers and an increase in seasonality.

People are going to become more value conscious and will opt for those luxury offers that represent a convincing value-for-money proposition. Providers of overpriced services are those to feel the pinch.

Both people paying for their personal trips and firms paying for their top executives' business trips will cut back on travel expenses, thus affecting all luxury travel providers.

It is going to be business as usual. Those people opting for high-end travel products are not going to be affected by the looming crisis.
