IACA backs new report for Europe`s aviation future
Monday, July 09, 2007
The High Level Group for the Future of European Aviation – ‘A Framework for Driving Performance Improvement’ report, is a positive step towards a long overdue implementation of a truly Single European Sky and achieving greater cost efficiency for airlines, IACA believes.

The recommendations in the report touch on key areas which need to be addressed if European aviation is to become more efficient and competitive in the future. The focus on resolving the current fragmentation in the European aviation system through better use of airspace and Functional Airspace Blocks (FABs), IACA argues, will help to reduce the major inefficiencies currently experienced by airlines and in turn, limit the unnecessary costs associated with this.

Also, IACA welcomes the emphasis on economic regulation to ensure that monopolistic service providers deliver value for money for airlines.

“This report is a very welcome acknowledgement of the current problems which airlines currently face – fragmentation of European airspace, monopolistic service provision and the resulting cost inefficiencies. A greater focus on addressing these is urgently required”, commented Sylviane Lust, Director General of IACA.

“We are pleased about the increased involvement of the European Commission in these initiatives and IACA and its members urge the Commission to ensure that the recommendations in today’s report are quickly converted into actual results”.

Poll
How is the use of biofuels by the aviation industry going to affect the environment?

It will be a positive step towards fighting climate change, as the aviation industry will be able to reduce its C02 emissions.

It will be positive for the environment but it will cause huge problems in other industries such as the food industry, especially in food supply.

It will have a negative impact as the widespread planting and use of biofuel crops could threaten the natural ecosystems.

It will harm the environment as carbon savings from biofuels are negligible.
