Helios Airways takes off from Luton London Airport
Wednesday, May 15, 2002
Helios Airways<.> has announced the introduction of two new scheduled services from London Luton Airport. The route, beginning on November 1st 2002, will offer scheduled flights to both Larnaca and Paphos with 5 services to Larnaca and one flying through Pafos. The service will become daily as of summer 2003. Helios Airways has been flying through Luton on a charter basis for a while now and its relationship with the airport is excellent. Helios Airways uses the Boeing 737-800 next-generation aircraft with leather seats throughout and audiovisual entertainment as well as a choice of meals.

Andreas Christodoulides - spokesperson of Helios Airways said, We`re delighted to further develop our already successful partnership with London Luton Airport with the introduction of these new scheduled services. With its modern facilities, excellent transport links and convenient location close to London, the Midlands and the South East England, London Luton Airport is Helios`s natural choice. The scheduled service was approved by the Cypriot authorities as part of its plans to gradually liberalize the airline industry by January 2003. Helios Airways was the natural choice for London Luton airport since Cyprus Airways already occupies the other three London airports.

How is the use of biofuels by the aviation industry going to affect the environment?

It will be a positive step towards fighting climate change, as the aviation industry will be able to reduce its C02 emissions.

It will be positive for the environment but it will cause huge problems in other industries such as the food industry, especially in food supply.

It will have a negative impact as the widespread planting and use of biofuel crops could threaten the natural ecosystems.

It will harm the environment as carbon savings from biofuels are negligible.
